After a long gap, got to see a film with good substance and freshness in malayalam. All credits goes to director Ranjith. Hats off to him, this time the director Ranjith outplays the writer Ranjith.
The very first shot itself gives us the mood and treatment of the film. Ranjith has taken good care in selecting the BGM for the shot and the entire film. The film revolves around three main characters, that of Prithviraj, Anoop Menon and Priyamani. The real hero in the film is the story itself. Once more hats off to Ranjith.
Ranjith has adapted good narrative style for telling the story, goes to the flash back and present time in between, that too through different characters. The script is an above average one and could have been made more sharp.
Very good performances from Priyamani, Prithviraj and Anoop Menon. Anoop Menon definitely deserves good roles in malayalam cinema. The expression of Prithviraj, while he opens the hospital door deserves a special mention, and good improvement in dialog delivery. Priyamani and Anoop excelled in the climax sequence.
Ranjith proves a director’s craft especially in the climax scenes. Undoubtedly Thirakkatha the best film from him and is a must watch for all film lovers.
Rating 8/10

Ranjith is walking with his passion. Yes, Thirakkatha is another milestone of Malayalam cinema industry as well as Ranjith carrier. Prithviraj, Anoop Menon and Priyamani have performed really outstanding performance. Ranjith has simply narrated the heart touching story.
We can see a freshness in all over Thirakkatha. Location, lighting, etc… are beautiful handled by Ranjith. The dialogues are sharp n’ shrewd. The starting and ending of the film is really brilliant. If anybody has not seen the film, it should be a miss for them.
Hats off Ranjith. And once again Hats to all, who has worked behind the Thirakkatha.
The best movie yet of the year.. The freshness in it is the main point of mention. Renjith is back with a bang.. I didn’t feel the performance by all the cast was that great. Priyamani was good and Prithviraj too.. Anoop Menon could have done better in many scenes..
Nikhil,
Finally I will have to start watching Prithvi movies.
I was avoiding his movies till this day.
Thalapaav and Thirakatha to watch now.

PS: Ninte joli enthaayi?
Good review nikhil, really story is the hero here. Renjith hats off, priyamani shows her calibre anoop chandran great going and prithvi he definitely has got stuff , real mature acting even for a small role. the best film for some years
@Nikhil Narayanan

thanks to all of you for the comments.
Superb movie.
I savored it.
Congrats to the crew.
(the lighting in some scenes could’ve been improved, though)
i loved the movie. saw it last week only.
fresh look, fresh stars and fresh narrative. this is what makes Thirakatha work for me
Brilliant work of art. After a long time its good to see Ranjit’s magic back on screen…. definitely falling back to where he belongs to…the story telling style is mesmerizing…amazingly scripted…wonderful star cast and great music to back it all……..
certainly a breath of fresh air in malayalam cinema……
….wholesome package indeed….
very good review!!
As far as i can say, after watching the movie, felt very surprised at what my classmate, Anoop Menon did. I never felt in our college days, that he could refine himself so much as a good character actor. Wow! hats off to his histrionics!
awesome movie!!! i saw it but still not escaped from the hang over and i want to see it again….renjith rocks….its more than enough to give forgiveness for his privious films rock n roll and chandrolsavam….after nandhanam, a different nostalgic movie really like it…no extra stuffs included, shaped sharply and neatly, performances, screenplay, BGM, songs, ……fantastic… i suggest u dont mis this movie,,,unfortunatly movie was not a big success, i think the problem with the marketting…the real movie lovers should see this film,,,anoop menon s the new discovery from renjith, its very fact that malayalam cinema s not utralising the amzing skills…the noted and central character ; priyamani, remains Sreevidya again. her dialogue delivery, expression i felt sreevidya, no doubt sreevidya s one of the beautiful and talented actress in indian cinema. this movie s the extract of her life, really its paining me….i promis u, it will give u some nice moments, with a stream of pain, romance…………..well done renjith…. “thiraktha” the real life screenplay that written by heart…
Ya..Thirakdha is great…excllent script..The hospital scne(the expression of pritvraj)is great..he proves that he has improvd a lote..anoop ,priyamani and other cast…nandu, mallika, surabi also have dne well…
Excellently woven script, especially the scene at the seventh reel of the 45th shot was marvellous!
I like the Song ” Palappoo ” very Much, Sung by Nishad (Gandarva Sangeetham Winner) and Swetha.
