Kangaroo Review

Kangaroo

Kangaroo is the second directional venture of director Raj Babu after his debutant project Chess. Kangaroo tells the story of an auto driver Josekutty from a christian family. Prithviraj portrays Josekutty with all his ease. Josekutty is a well educated young man who makes living with his auto. Jagathy plays the elder brother of Prithviraj and his charater suffers from mental disorder. The illness of his brother results in stopping Josekutty’s sister’s marriage. Screen test fame Helen portrays the sister role.

Josekutty has many debts, especially to his brother in law Kunjachan(Salim Kumar). By the time, he falls for a girl(Kavya Madhavan) even her name is unknown to him. The debt troubles makes Josekutty’s life more hard, and to solve his trouble of debts, Josekutty decides to marry a girl with immense dowry and who is already having a child. The rest forms the story of Kangaroo, which is having some twists and turns ahead.

Prithviraj performs well as usual and his combination scene with Harisree Ashokan during the engagement deserves a special mention. Jayasurya plays the role of the anti hero and he did justice to the role. In the climax sequence, Jayasurya proves that he too knows acting. Kavya Madhavan looks plumpy and dont have siganificance otherthan the romantic part. Kavery comes in a guest role. The director doesn’t show any maturity in handling the comic role of Salim Kumar.

Joe Pallassery’s script is an average one having with flaws. Raj Babu improves from Chess but he has a long way to go. The flaws in script could have been corrected by him, but he fails to apply his logic at places. The first song “Kalli pulli kuyile” is a romantic one tuned by Alex Paul. But his back ground music is not upto mark and sometimes it falls flat. The lulluby performed by Prithviraj is a hummable one.

In short Kangaroo is an above average movie made to utilise the festival audience. Verdict 6/10.
