Now a days Idea Star Singer is the most successful reality show in malayalam television. Its almost ten months since the show has started in Asianet. What makes this one a successful show above other reality shows? We can count the plus points as more popular celebrity judges, quality judgment, performance etc.
But the major selling factor of the show is not any of these. The audience of sentiments packed serials became fans of star singer. Why did they became regular viewers of star singer? The answer is simple. They are getting the same content from star singer also. Sentiments overdose and melodrama. The elimination rounds are fully packed with melodrama. Housewives and even husbands find time to weep in-front of the television. Asianet had recognized this sentimental factor in the very starting of the show and their creative directors have added enough sentiments in the elimination rounds. They carried a sentimental factor in the form of Sannidanandhan for using in many elimination rounds.
As the show is about to finish, the channel is keen in playing all the dirty tactics to promote their own “special” participants. Talent is not a matter there. Last Monday, everyone witnessed the participant of lowest marks overtakes a young girl who was in the third position. The same guy got the similar “helping hand” of the program producers in the semi final round also. Asianet is trying to hide this foul play under the curtain of “sms count”. In the last two rounds before the finals, two participants were eliminated. That time both of them were in the lowest positions. A popular participant like Vani Jayaram didn’t get the “sms” help to climb above others. But an average performer of the finals created “magic” of “sms” to get into the grand finale.
When this guy was called on stage for the judges’ comments in the elimination round, he was 100% dumb struck. Judges made comments that he had nothing to hope and he knew that he was not eligible for the next round. But even after the surprise entry into the grand finale, his mood was the same. He knew that he is not getting the entry through marks or sms. Audience spotted a convict there on the stage. But this is not atall going to affect the channel’s attitude or approach towards the talented participants.
The audition round of Star Singer 2008 have already started. Candidates who apply for it must keep one thing in mind. If you don’t have smart contacts in Asianet, there is no use in dreaming about the finals.

I also felt the same doubt you desribed . The one with lowest marks (Arun Gopan) got entrance into mega final round. Another on who was in the second position (Isham) is wiped out. The reason they are telling is SMS. In that last elimination , they revealed the sms count also to give more “clarity” to this back door mechanism.
Anyway once the whole fraud and foul play will come in screen. Upto that we can send sms “ISS Fraud”
Ya Sajith, thats right. Hesham and Amrutha deserved the grand finale. Arun Gopan got the benefit of the foul play in semi finals also.
The last drama of revealing “sms count” was pure play. Now almost all people are convinced about these dirty tactics.
Yes the entry of Arun Gopan into the great finale was little suspicious. He was having the lowest marks and I never hope he would be in.

All stage managed and those who love and give life for music will commit suicide if these type of music is promoted. And the manglish people talk at the show is amazing - though born outside kerala and being in the North India for the lase 25 yrs and my kids born and brought up here talk far better Malayalam than the desi’s speak there - may god bless you AZiyaneet

As you have mentioned, it is obvious that hesham and amrutha deserved a place in the finals…..but the foul play of asianet cost them …..but it can be said that they are the future stars……and foul play is engaged in this in the form of SMS…..at least it should be avoided in Iss-2008…but all of us know that it will be there……because asianettinu kaashu kittiyaal kayikummoh???

Let them do their magics, its all success of asianet event handlers. On the final day of ISS 2007, i remember, the hotel where i use to go was crowded with malayalees just to see this event. Oh my god.. it was like the hotel was soooo busy with only MEN, no women.
hesham deserving in to final of idea star singer of 2007.but asianet plays a big drama.ranjini is the best actoress in that drama.
What Nikhil has brought out, as above is convincingly true and I also share my views to it. I had spoken frankly about the partiality observed in the ISS 2007 through diffrerent threads posted by me in the Forum . For the sake of keeping Arun Gopan in the Finals, poor Amrutha had been thrown out .
When Thushar revealed his musical talent in the Kachery Rounds , he survived . Otherwise it was Thushar who would have been also thrown out.
The so called “performance rounds” have been kept in the musical talent hunt for the sake of covering up certain contestants who are not talented singers, but talented “performers ” , the one like Arun Gopan are beneficiaries from such “Pe- koothu” rounds . And better talented singers ( and less talented ” so-called performer ” ) like Thushar were the most sufferers with this sort of rounds …
Every body knew , long before that Najim was the ultimate Winner . He is certaunly a talented Singer , but he had his limitations .. when ever he misses the breath, he swallows the lyrics and manages with the judges . His submissive style and kneeling tactics in front of the judges earned him very good marks, not so deserving in many rounds… The program managers, including the judges played the drama well scripted to declare the winner they had “chosen” long back .. Was he the real talented topper ? or is it DURGA VISWANATH ??

V are now watching ISS 2008 . So far the panel of judges appears to be better lot than ISS 2007 , element of partiality has not yet come out from their judgment .
Let us hope that ISS 2008 will be better that the past one ….

I am watching the 2008 ISS.Each participant must be told that whatever language they choose to sing, their pronounciation of the lyrics must be perfect.There should not be any compromise & they must be penalised
if they err.The participant Somadass though he sings well
compared to others, has made lot of mistakes in the
anniyan song (Sruti, Thalam& pronounciation)
In the other song Varaha , his performance was ordy
with so much of apaswaram.
Buthe judges ignored all this & he was unduly hyped.
There is no place for sentiments & sympathy in a competition like this.
It gives afeeling the whole show is fixed to some extent.The organisers must watch out for favouritism
& weed out the incompetent judges whoever it may be.
Bring in eminent people like AR Rehman ,Ilayaraja& some from north to judge the show so that the quality
of the contest could go for toprating.
I am from USA & there are many viewers here who
share the same view.Buck up& tighten you belt “ASIANET” We expect better deal from you atleast in 2009.Thanks

We all know that Somadass’s singing has a lot of mistakes and the judges are ignoring it. Thats not coincidental. Its intentional.
AS I pointed in the article, one of the major selling factors of ISS is cheap sentiments like that of third right serials. They got one Sannidanandhan and another blind guy in 2007. They carried the poor singer Sanni till semifinal as he was the main source of sms revenue for Asianet. Now they are just recreating another sms bankable guy through praising Somadass. The same senti drama happens in the case of Sinimol too. On these singer’s episode days, the show extends to 10′o clock filled with emotional drama.
Now the rating has dipped a lot. Thats why they brought back even the stars of ISS2007 too besides Deedi, Sarath and Ranjini.
Honestly, I don’t expect that the show may reach its finals..

Hi All,
Just seen all the comments above..In 2007 it is true that Amrutha could have been reached in to finals instead Arun Gopan..but about Hesham of course he is a good singer for some particular type of songs and cannot sing all types so he doesn’t deserv a seat in finals ..Arun Gopan is a better choice than him..In 2008 about the Somadas performance he is not exactly like Sanni. At least try to hear the songs like Pirannoree mannum and Uruguthe in which his performance was excellent and of course he is a talented singer and I don’t think any partiality in the judgment .But at the same time there are lot of talented singers like Vivekanand (he is the person who has perfect control in his voice and even srtuthy,thalam etc) .Prasobh,Manikanta das, Ajay sathyan ,Arya,Cine mol etc.. and don’t think the persons like Unnikrishnan and Ouseppachan will do the judgments in correctly
