Malayalam film industry is generally careless about the promotion of the movies through internet. When Bollywood had identified the penetration of internet among global audience and created exclusive websiters for the movies, our industry was relying on newspaper ads. For the last couple of years, there are film news of malayalam cinema websites like Indiaglitz, Sify, Nowrunning etc. But there are only very few movies which has its own website, but created without any good design or content.

Now here comes a well made website for the upcoming movie Thalappavu. It is the best website I have ever seen for a malayalam cinema. This innovative approach from the Thalappavu crew points that our malayalam cinema industry have started to realise the potential of the marketing movies though internet. Thalappavu will be released by the last week of this month. Thalappavu is Writer/Actor Madhupal’s first directional venture. Babu Janardhanan writes the script and Prithviraj plays the lead role.

Two days before, there happened a shameful incident at Malappuram. Its video is here. The video shows Super star Mammootty beating a fan, who tried to shake hand him. Mammootty came Malappuram for the promotional campaign of his latest movie Roudram. When he was returning after the function in the top open car, a guy tried to give shake hand to Mammooty, who was waving hands at his fans . In the video, we can see that Mammooty beating him when that guy touched his hand.

Majority of us used to watch other language films. We can see many exciting thrillers in English. Final Destination series, Phonebooth, Italian Job etc are some examples. These films do not have a long story. But they have a tight screenplay and direction. Thus they make us thrilled till the end. There are some good thrillers in Hindi also… Humraaz, Naqaab etc.. There comes some inspired versions in tamil also. Recently made Pachaikili Muthucharam was inspired from Derailed.

But as far as malayalam is concerned, we have some suspense movies. CBI series and some films in the same category, that have a suspense in the climax. But they all are investigative stories. ‘4the people’ was a moderate thriller. Santhosh Sivan has made an attempt with Aparichithan, but the movie didnt reach upto mark. I dont think that we need a big budget for making a thriller in malayalam. If we consider the movie Phonebooth, we can see that around 80% of the film’s duration is only a single scene, in which the hero speaks from a phonebooth. Movies of such genre can be made in malayalam also with out spending much money. We can create our own scripts in malayalam other than adopting from other languages.

We should make exciting thrillers also for the prosperous future of malayalam cinema… We have vibrant youngsters like Prithviraj, Narain, Indrajith etc….. Only need appropriate screenplay and director.
